Maybe it was the frustration with never finding the right shade, or the continuously clogged pores. Maybe it was the desire to embrace my inner Parisienne and be "au naturel," or it was the fear of looking as fake as the orange-faced, Oompa-Loompa-esque ladies I see walking around Edinburgh. Whatever the cause, I'm through with wearing foundation make-up.

Bread. Cheese. Awesomeness: Banitsa is a magical bread that my Bulgarian friend Monika introduced me to in our second year of university. Why it took her an entire year after our first meeting to let me taste the wonders of Bulgaria, I don't know. But it suffices to say that banitsa has changed my life for ever - and for the better. Now, in the spirit of friendship and carbohydrates, Monika has given me the recipe for this surprisingly simple dish and has even agreed to supervise and taste my inaugural banitsa.

Let's think back to the end of last year when I made those 5 New Year's Resolutions....number one on that list? Learning how to do a push-up - correctly. All the bragging about my fantastically toned arms (see above) aside, my upbringing in a military family surprisingly left me without any knowledge on the correct form and technique for a push-up. Not to mention upper arm strength.

Sweaters are pretty damn nifty. In case you didn't know, there is an art to wearing a sweater, a skill that I sadly do not and may never possess. Since it's usually considered to be the plain jane in your wardrobe, it takes a lot of sartorial know-how to wear such a garment in just the right way. That is, with class, elegance, coolness and effortless all wrapped up into one cotton-blend package.
